What is an Isolator?

Within the electrical power systems domain, an isolator is a type of electrical switching device used to effectively isolate two different parts of an electrical circuit. The prime purpose of the device is to provide safety in case of a fault in one or more parts of an electrical circuit, by isolating that part or device in the system for maintenance or troubleshooting.
